The turning basin as viewed from the Lock and Eleanor street area.
This view, taken from Lock and Eleanor streets looks to the northwest. On the left (water now) was the origin site of the Illinois and Michigan Canal, sometimes referred to as "Lock Zero" in part because this was Mile Post Zero and also because "Lock One" was in Lockport. Part of the original supply channel still exists along Ashland avenue and under the former terminal/warehouse grounds on the west side of Ashland avenue. The bridge seen on the left is the Ashland avenue bridge.
