_______________ Notes: a. Alilunas does not define the boundaries of Canalport, but does mention Bridgeport. The area to which the figures apply had a larger population than Bridgeport did; it probably includes areas on the north/west side of the canal/river, while it probably excludes southern parts of Bridgeport. b. The numbers Alilunas provides are the foreign born count and those in note (c) below. All the other figures were calculated using these numbers and are estimates (made in the same proportions as the foreign born group) derived from the group born of foreign or mixed parentage. This would tend to underestimate the older groups (Irish and German) and accentuate the more recent immigrants. The third generation falls entirely within the ‘native' category; 5598 children of mixed parentage were not figured in.c. The base population figures of this Canalport area were as follows:
Total population: 78755 Native of native parents: 11464 Native of foreign parents: 32075 Foreign born: 28252 Mixed white: 5598 Colored (all): 1366
