A street sweeper of the Central Manufacturing District.

The proprietors felt it important enough to include a picture of this street sweeper in their promotional publication. In their own words, "...in no other industrial center has the matter of grass lawns, flowers around the buildings, boulevards, attractive buildings, and healthful surroundings, received the consideration that has been given here.... the District has its own street cleaning department, and maintains a force of gardeners to care for its business boulevards." Part of the reason for nice or healthful surroundings was to motivate the workforce by creating a environment conducive to productive work.
